NetNewsWire 2.0 public beta

Ranchero Software has released the first public betas of NetNewsWire 2.0 and their new weblog editor, MarsEdit 1.0.

NetNewsWire 2.0 no longer has a built-in weblog editor. Instead it will be bundled with MarsEdit but will also work with any weblog editor such as ecto.

NetNewsWire 2.0's new features include:

  • Flagged items
  • Search from the toolbar
  • Embedded browser
  • Smart Lists, which display items from other feeds based on rules you specify.
  • Search engine subscriptions: Subscribe to searches at Blogdigger, Daypop, and Feedster.
  • Script subscriptions: write AppleScript or shell scripts which generate Atom or RSS feeds.
  • Customize display with style menu & style sheets.
  • RSS Enclosure support
  • Atom support
  • Subscription sharing via Rendezvous

NetNewsWire 2.0 is a free upgrade for owners of NetNewsWire 1.x. NetNewsWire 2.0 & MarsEdit 1.0 sell for $24.95 each or $39.95 for a bundle including both applications.

MarsEdit is a stand-alone weblog editor that supports Blosxom, Conversant, Manila, Movable Type, Radio UserLand, TypePad, WordPress, and other blogging systems. It can be used alone, with NetNewsWire, or with a bookmarklet which lets you send a page from your web browser.
