August Cocoa Bootcamp at the Big Nerd Ranch
Atlanta, GA - July 13, 2004 - Beat the Summer Heat with Cocoa: the Big Nerd Ranch announces its Cocoa Bootcamp for August 23-27, 2004
Fresh from the WWDC buzz surrounding the release of the second edition of "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X" by Aaron Hillegass, the Big Nerd Ranch is announcing the newest offering of its popular Cocoa Bootcamp, August 23-27. The book, which is also used as the course text, includes chapters on Cocoa bindings and OpenGL.
Cocoa Bootcamp instructor, Aaron Hillegass, said, "It is clear from our experiences at WWDC that Cocoa Bindings are going to take a major role in the future of Cocoa. Starting in August, Cocoa Bootcamp will more heavily emphasize and more deeply explore bindings and the NSController."
The course, like the book, is in keeping with the Big Nerd Ranch teaching philosophy, which stresses a casual yet focused presentation. Brief lectures are followed by exercises designed to give the student an immediate and relevant understanding of the topic. By truly being a bootcamp, where students undergo rigorous and intensive hands-on instruction, students leave the five-day session having mastered the necessary skills to begin programming in Cocoa.
For the complete syllabus, please visit http://www.bignerdranch.com/classes/cocoa1.shtml.
The Big Nerd Ranch incorporates intensive training classes for Unix and Mac OS X programmers in a retreat setting outside Atlanta, GA. Class price of $3500 includes lodging, all meals, original instruction materials, 24-hour lab access, and transportation to and from the Atlanta airport. Students are encouraged to bring independent projects to class, allowing for input from classmates and individual instructor attention. DX Toolbox 2.1.0 Released
Black Cat Systems announces the release of DX Toolbox version 2.1.0, a radio propagation / conditions analysis and forecasting tool for amateur radio operators, shortwave listeners, and other radio enthusiasts. DX Toolbox is just $24.99. This version adds the ability to specify custom image URLs to load, reduces the time to load images, and includes several bug fixes. Complete information about DX Toolbox and downloads may be obtained from http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/dxtoolbox.html
DX Toolbox is an application which gathers a variety of solar and geomagnetic information from real-time online sources, and presents them in charts and tables, including:
- A - Index
- K - Index
- Solar Flux
- Sun Spot Number
- X-Ray Flux levels
- X-Ray flares
- Solar Wind
- Geomagnetic Field
- Radio Blackout conditions
- Geomagnetic Storm conditions
- Solar Radiation Storm conditions
A grayline map of the world is also available. Propagation between locations within the grayline region of the world is often greatly enhanced. DX Toolbox's grayline map makes it easy for you to determine where those locations are.
A propagation forecast map shows the estimated signal level for a given frequency from all parts of the world, for given solar conditions, and the time of day and day of year. A plot of the expected signal levels between two points on the Earth for all 24 hours of a day may also be graphed.
A grid square calculator determines grid squares from longitude and latitude, and a world map shows grid squares and time zone information.
The following reports are available:
- WWV Geophysical Alert
- 27 Day Space Outlook
- 45 Day AP Forecast
- Geomagnetic Data
- Daily Geomagnetic Data
- Daily Particle Data
- Daily Solar Data
