MacHack Report
I'm now at MacHack with a usable network connection. The show is a lot smaller than previous years, but still lots of fun.
MacHack usually takes place a month after WWDC, but this year Apple changed the dates so WWDC will take place next week. As a result, there's a lot of speculation & anticipation of Apple's announcements. The crowd is a lot smaller and there were fewer sponsors this year, so there's less food (no midnight Pizza on the first night), and fewer machines in the iCafe.
The sessions are high quality as usual, and everyone is still having lots of fun sharing stories & hacks. Scott Knaster's keynote last night was a gem, with stories about working for Apple, General Magic, and Microsoft.
Unlike previous years, we were plagued with network problems & loss of internet connectivity. The problems were finally resolved this morning & this has been the first time I've been able to get online reliably.
As usual, the "yoots" are the stars of the show. Apple's future success is dependent on attracting enthusiastic young developers, and MacHack plays an important role in doing that.
I'll post more after the hack show tonight.
