iTunes 4.0.1 Update now avaialble

An update to iTunes 4.0.1 is now available in the Software Update panel.

iTunes 4.0.1 includes a number of performance and network access enhancements, and only allows music sharing between computers using iTunes 4.0.1 or later on a local network (in the same subnet). If you have an Apple SuperDrive, you can archive your song files to a DVD disc as well as burn playlists to standard audio CDs to play in your car or home stereo.

Emailchemy 1.5 converts between email formats

Do you have your email locked in a proprietary format or want to change email programs? Emailchemy may be just what you're looking for.

Emailchemy is a utility that helps you regain ownership of your email. Emailchemy reads email from the proprietary formats of the most popular (and many of yesterday's forgotton) email applications and converts it to a standard, portable format that any application can use.

The primary idea behind Emailchemy was to convert all the various proprietary email formats to The One True E-mail Format - RFC-822 (recently updated to RFC-2822, but we'll still refer to it as RFC-822 to avoid confusion). This is the official Internet/ARPAnet standard for email that has been around since 1973. However, Emailchemy was built with a “pluggable” architecture that allows it to easily convert to other formats as well.

Things you can do with Emailchemy:

  • Convert email to standard formats
  • Repair or clean mailbox files
  • Remove proprietary extensions from mailbox files
  • Condense/split email files and archives
  • Prepare email for entry into a database
  • Make older email Year 2000 compliant

Emailchemy will read email from many popular email programs including Claris Emailer, Entourage, Eudora, Mac OS X Mail, Mozilla or Netscape, Mulberry, Opera, Outlook Express, QuickMail, or any UNIX-style mailbox and convert it to standard RFC-822 mailboxes, Mac OS X Mail, Eudora mailboxes, or comma-separated files for importing into databases.

I found that it quickly and flawlessly converted several large mailboxes from Mac OS X Mail into Eudora for archiving.

Emailchemy is available for $25 from Weird Kid Software.
