Easily toggle graphics in Mail
Two recent Apple KnowledgeBase articles discuss how HTML graphics in mail relate to spam and how to turn HTML graphics on or off. Instead of making a trip to the Preferences window to change the HTML graphics option, here's a simple AppleScript to toggle that option.
Create the following script and either run it as an application or place it in your scripts folder to run from the script menu.
tell application "Mail"
set showgfx to not (download html attachments)
set download html attachments to showgfx
if showgfx is true then
say "Graphics on"
else
say "Graphics off"
end if
end tell

Experimental version of Phoenix for Mac OS X
An experimental version of Phoenix for Mac OS X is now available from http://www.kmgerich.com/misc.html. Note that this isn't a Mozilla.org product. Please don't contact Mozilla.org regarding this build as it is not supported.
Phoenix is a redesign of the Mozilla browser component, similar to Galeon, K-Meleon and Chimera, but written using the XUL user interface language and designed to be cross-platform.
Note that this isn't a finished product and is less stable than Chimera.

iCommune will be reborn
The author of iCommune has decided to give it a new future independent of iTunes.
Here's what the next version will be:
- a stand-alone application that manages network accessible music libraries
- able to generate and manage playlists for your favorite mp3 player
- able to communicate with and control your mp3 player using AppleEvents
- Rendezvous-enabled
- built with a robust indexer and XML format that properly handles non-ASCII characters
- completely free of any Apple proprietary code or interface use
- completely open source under the GPL
James G. Speth says he is working on it now, and hopes to get it out soon, with source. Hopefully from there, it will take on a life of its own, and get even better.
