Microsoft announces the death of Windows 95

According to this Microsoft document, Mac OS 9 isn't the only dead operating system.

Effective December 31 2002, several Microsoft operating systems reach End Of Life. All versions of MS DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT 3.5x already entered their non-supported phase on December 31, 2001 and will be EOL'd at the end of this year.

Windows 98 and NT 4.x will enter their non supported phase on June 30, 2003 and will reach end of life on June 30, 2004.

I know many people that are still running Windows 95 or even 3.0, and I suspect people will continue to run them for many years until their old PCs finally die.

Mozilla X 1.2 Final Released

The final release of Mozilla 1.2 for Mac OS X has been released.

What's new in this version:

  • Type ahead find works on Mac Mozilla and works correctly with IME.

  • Linux Mozilla (in the Classic theme) will pick up the native GTK theme and HTML form controls now pick up the native theme on winXP.

  • Mozilla now supports link prefetching; see the Link Prefetching FAQ for details.

  • Mozilla Mail includes a new "filter after the fact" capability so users can create a filter and then run that filter on already downloaded mail. Filter logging has also been implemented.

  • A long requested feature, show toolbars as text/icons/both, has been implemented.

  • You can launch the browser with a bookmark group as your start page. This loads several pages into tabs at startup.

  • Java compatability with Mac OS 10.2 (Jaguar) has been repaired.

For more information or to download a copy visit MacUpdate or Mozilla.org.

I tried it out & it seems fairly stable but still slow on my G4/500. I plan to stick with Chimera 0.6, which is a lot faster.
