Edit Chimera's hidden preferences

Chimerachanga is a program that attempts to make it easier to turn on some of the "hidden" preferences within Chimera (Navigator) 0.6, without having to manually edit the preferences file each time.

Some of the hidden preferences you can edit include:

  • HTTP Pipelining, which supposedly makes certain sites load faster.

  • Disable Chimera's Cache, disables the on-disk cache folder that Chimera builds. This is generally not needed for higher-speed connections, and is a great battery saver for PowerBooks (less disk access).

  • Enable URL Bar Favicons, which turns on "favicons", in your URL bar. Favicons are the tiny icons that more sites are starting to put up.

  • Enable History in the Sidebar, see your browsing history in the sidebar.

  • Force Download Window to Disappear, makes sure the download window goes away immediately after you download files.

  • Set RAM Disk Cache, sets your RAM disk cache for Chimera from 10 to 50MB.

Chimerachanga is available from If Then Software. More information is avaialble here.

I've enabled the HTTP Pipelining option and I find that it makes a very noticeable difference with most sites.

Quesa High-level 3D Library for Developers

The Quesa Development Team are pleased to announce the release of Quesa

1.6d16, the latest release of their high-level 3D library for developers.

This release incorporates a year's worth of bug fixes and improvements over

the last public release, including numerous performance enhancements and

almost complete API coverage.

Applications written to the Quesa API can take advantage of an extensive 3D

toolkit (that includes file importers/exporters, plug-in renderers, and

high-level geometries), while still leveraging the performance of low-level

OpenGL 3D hardware acceleration.

Quesa is a cross-platform Open Source project, which supports Mac OS X/9,

Windows, and Linux. The Mac OS version can be built with either CodeWarrior

or Project Builder, and can generate Carbon, Cocoa, or Classic libraries.

For more information about Quesa, or to obtain pre-built binaries and demo

applications for Mac OS and Windows, please visit the Quesa web site:

http://www.quesa.org/

The latest Quesa source code is also available from our CVS server, details

of which are on our web site.

MacGPS Pro 4.0 is now OS X Native

James Associates is proud to announce the release of MacGPS Pro version 4.0. This major upgrade is available now with immediate shipping. It features very high quality high speed zooming and panning of large Digital Raster Graphics maps. It now runs on Mac OS X as well as Mac OS 6 through Mac OS 9, PPC or 68K.

MacGPS Pro is the premier Macintosh program for communicating with a Garmin GPS receiver. It allows import of background maps from a wide variety of sources. Maps show the user's current location and velocity, GPS Waypoints, Track logs, and Routes.

GPS data can be graphically generated and edited for transfer to all Garmin GPS receivers. GPS data transferred from the receiver to the Macintosh can be examined in far greater detail than you could using the receiver alone.

MacGPS Pro automatically detects which GPS receiver you have connected. It will work with virtually all Garmin receivers and all internal firmware versions.

You can get more information on MacGPS Pro and USGS topo maps to use with it by visiting our web site at http://www.macgpspro.com.

James Associates is a Macintosh software company located in the beautiful Rocky Mountains just west of Boulder, Colorado.
