Rendezvous, Networking & Mail in Jaguar

With Jaguar running on two different machines, I was able to try out Rendezvous and some of the new networking features.

I enabled printer sharing on my G4, which has a Lexmark Z32 printer connected to it, and I was able to see that printer and print to it from my iBook. If I choose get info from the iBook, it shows that the printer is connected to my G4.

If you log into Rendezvous from iChat, you can see any other machines running Jaguar and send files. iChat is also integrated with the address book. If you have a card for someone on your buddy list, you'll see their real name instead of their screen name.

Although I still prefer Eudora, I tried out mail and found that it's pretty nice. It now shows separate mailboxes for each account as well as a combined mailbox.

One warning: if you're using IMAP and have filters set up that move messages to a different mailbox, the message will be deleted from the server when it gets moved to a local mailbox. That doesn't happen if you're using POP.

The junk mail rule by default changes the color of any message that it thinks is junk mail, although you can change that action. It learns what is and isn't junk mail as you tell it using an icon in the tool bar.
